Overview
When a boom truck beats a crane
A boom truck is a lorry with a hydraulic lifting arm behind the cab. It picks a load off the ground or off another vehicle, sets it on its own bed, and drives it to site — one machine, one driver, one trip.
That changes the cost and the timing. A job that would otherwise need a crane to lift plus a trailer to carry can often be done by a single boom truck, as long as the load is within its capacity. It also gets into sites where a large crane simply cannot set its outriggers.
We use them constantly for loading and unloading inside warehouses, moving project materials and equipment, and delivering mid-weight items to sites around Jeddah.
- Loading and unloading goods and equipment at warehouses and factories
- Moving mid-weight items and materials between sites
- Setting generators, chillers and small tanks into position
- Delivering building materials and steel to site
- Reaching tight sites that will not take a full-size crane
- Working alongside a crane when a job runs in two stages

Before you book
What decides the size you need
Weight of the heaviest piece
A boom truck carries less than a full crane, so the weight is the first thing we ask.
Reach from the truck
The further the load sits from the truck, the less the arm can lift. Distance matters as much as weight.
Load dimensions
Length and width decide whether it rides on the truck bed or needs a trailer instead.
Site access
Entrance width and room to manoeuvre, particularly inside warehouse yards.

A walk through a large steel hangar while work is under way: a truck-mounted boom lift putting a worker up at roof-purlin level, then a truck-mounted crane operating inside the same hall.
FAQ
Questions about boom trucks
What is the difference between a boom truck and a crane?
A mobile crane only lifts: it arrives, sets its outriggers, makes the lift and leaves — and it handles far heavier loads. A boom truck is a lorry with a lifting arm: lower capacity, but it lifts and carries in the same trip. Heavy load or big height, take the crane. Mid-weight load you also need moved, the boom truck is cheaper.
Do you have boom trucks available in Jeddah?
Yes — boom trucks are among the machines we run most often across Jeddah and the surrounding areas, especially for loading, unloading and moving project materials.
How much can a boom truck lift?
Capacity changes with the machine and with how far the load sits from the truck — the same arm lifts considerably more close in than at full reach. Send us the weight and the distance on WhatsApp and we will confirm what suits from what is free on your date.
Can a boom truck deliver materials to a construction site?
Yes, and it is one of the most common uses: load at the factory or warehouse, drive to site, and set the material down exactly where it is wanted without needing any lifting equipment on site.
